Well, well, well....it's been a while! I have been super busy with the holidays, kiddos, and all around life itself!! I have not fallen off the face of the earth! But 2010 is starting out with a bang and I couldn't be more excited for what the new year will bring! First a couple of things coming up!!

April and July are now officially booked in the wedding department and I am sooo excited!

I forgot to post the Holiday cards that are available!!! Not only that, it was also brought to my attention that I never posted the Christmas Special info either! Slacker I am!! First, the Special Session info is below!!

2009 Christmas Special Session

All for $200, you will receive:

Session for up to 4 people, a 4x6 spiral bound proof book with custom cover with all proofs from your session, 1-11x14 fine art print, 4-5x7's, 1 sheet of wallets and a set of 24 two sided flat 5x7 holiday cards of your choice with the photos of your choice from your session.

Gift tags, ornaments, and other specialty items are available as well this year! Mugs, magnets, t-shirts, mouse pads, calendars...you name it, I can probably get it! If you would like to take advantage of this and have already booked your session and have your gallery online, email me for details. If you have already had photos taken this year and would like to use those photos for holiday cards, those are also available to you! Email for details!

October is officially booked for the weekends and November is not far behind!!! Please remember that if you need holiday photos and would like to book, contact me asap! I am on maternity leave, but will continue answering emails until the baby is here and will continue to do so after she is born. I will try my best to get all emails answered within 24 hours, but if that is not possible I will return all emails or phone calls in the order they were are received. (Wow...I sound like the cable company when they put you on hold when you are trying to find out why your TV won't work! haha! ) Limited weekday sessions are still available for those able to book during those times. Maternity leave starts today...

Today is the first official day of maternity leave! I am still ordering prints and will continue until the baby is born. Delivery will be limited, but you are welcome to pick up prints at my home. If you would like to book for Fall/Christmas photos, I strongly suggest you get with me asap to secure your date. I will be posting the Fall/Christmas Special soon as well as this years holiday cards! For those of you who have already booked with me for your fall photos, if you would like to take advantage of the special, email me and let me know before your session date. I am currently booking for the following dates this fall:

Saturday, October 17th this is the last weekend date available!!

Weekdays are always available to those that can schedule for a evening appointment, but remember when time changes, we will be limited on daylight.

As I said, weekday appointments are available, and for those who are able to book those, and I would appreciate you doing so to leave the few weekend appointments to those who cannot do a weekday at all. If you are needing to book maternity or newborn photos, please email me. Although many dates are booked, newborn and maternity photos are very time sensitive and can be worked in to accommodate your due date. I will also be offering new products for the holiday season, so keep an eye out for those! I have one to show as soon as I get the product delivered to its owner! (Not fair to show it until she has seen it! :) ) And as always, a post is very boring without a photo, so here is a peek at my afternoon yesterday!! I caught my very first smile on camera!!

Maternity Leave and Fall Schedule.....

Most of you know that I will be going on maternity leave soon...sooner than I had hoped, but that's ok! That just means that I will be back to work sooner! I am currently booking for October, but those dates are filling fast! I am almost completely booked for the weekends, so weekdays will be all that is left soon. If you are needing to book newborn photos, please do so before August 15th. I know you can never know the exact date your baby will arrive, but I will need to know to plan on working you in around your expected due date. If everything goes as planned...as much as it can be planned....I will be back to work as of October 1st. This holiday season will be a busy one this year, so please don't hesitate to book your appointments soon! I will be booking only up until December 5th, so be sure to get your slot while you can! Keep checking back for new pics of the last few sessions I will be working on before the baby arrives, this years Christmas special, and of course my new edition! She is sure to hate my camera by the time she is a week old! :) And because its boring without a pic, here is the little cutie I spent the morning with yesterday!!!

I don't post much as far as personal stuff on this blog, but I received this email this morning from a friend, who some of you may have met when she has helped me photograph your session or event. When I read this email, I immediately wanted to help in any way I could. I know that times are very hard for some right now, and believe me, I am well aware of how hard it can be to cloth your own children. I am scrambling to cloth my newborn before she arrives! But I also know how those kids clothes can pile up as they quickly outgrow them. (Hence my scrambling for newborn clothing, since I gave K's away, thinking I wouldn't need it again since I was so positive I would have a boy the second time around. We now know the Perkins boys can only reproduce females...) If anyone would like to help out this family in need, please let me know. 'Hey everyone,

I just wanted to write you all to ask for you to pray for my friend Kristi Reese. She went into the ER last Sunday and they found a tumor on her brain behind her eye. She had been having a headache for 4 days before going to the ER. The finally did a spinal tap on Wednesday and removed fluid from her spine, to alleviate some pressure. She was released on Friday only to return to the hospital to be admitted on Sunday. The pain keeps getting worse and she has lost sight and functionality in her eye as well as blurred vision in her other eye. She's a hairdresser and has had to apply for disability as well as her drivers license is no longer valid due to them now declaring her legally blind. She is only 26 years old and a single mother with 3 extremely beautiful and loving little girls. She's very down right now not knowing how she's going to get everything she needs to get done for the girls for back to school. I have bought what I can for them but I don't have an overflow of extra, as I am sure none of us do in this economy. I was wondering if you could all either look in your daughters' closets and see if there are some good condition clothes that you wouldn't mind donating to them. Or if you don't have daughters if you know of anyone with girls that would like to donate them that would be great. I seriously don't want to bother you all or feel like I'm taking advantage of my friends but I know that the friends and family that I have are the most awesome so I think you know me and I wouldn't dare try to offend any of you (on purpose no, sometimes my mouth does it for me unbeknown-est to me..haha).

Please keep her and her little girls in your prayers they need all the prayer they can get right now. Kristi, Kati, Kallie, and Kelsie Reese. I have listed sizes below if you can possibly help.

I had the best time with my Ford lovin' couple on Friday!! :) And Mr. Turbo for the short time he joined us...what a cutie! We started out in the old square of the Groom's hometown...well mine too, but that's beside the point! Friday was all about the Mr & Mrs. So like I said, we started out in the town square area to get some fun shots of them and the Mr's super cool '64 Mustang...man I hope that's the right year...so pretty. Can cars be pretty?? Well, if they can, it was! Blue with white, what I call racing stripes. I know there is a more technical term or a specific name, but it escapes me at the moment. (Correct me Groom, if you read this.....) How cute are they?!?!?

So then we head to another spot in our hometown, but not without a tiny set back...but soon we were ready to go! :) So we headed to our next stop and got some shots and also had a run in with a hungry duck. I didn't get any shots of him and its probably a good thing. The duck activists probably wouldn't have been pleased with our means of shooing them away. (No ducks were harmed in this photo adventure...sticks being shook at them, yes but no harm, I promise!)

So then, just before we were ready to break and get ready for our next location....Super Chevy to the rescue!!! :) I am pretty sure Mrs was about ready to sell the Ford at this point and I am also pretty certain, that Mr was ecstatic that I was not snapping photos of this aspect of our day. (Believe me, if I would have thought of it, and wasn't worried about the 'stang', I would have been snapping away at my beast of a Chevy helping out! So anyway, after a quick break, and a drive into Dallas (after picking up the Dodge), we got to the next location...which was GORGEOUS by the way! And really it was, not just because I share the name of the Chapel, but it really is going to be a BEAUTIFUL wedding there next spring!!!

And our last stop was at the Arboretum. The summer heat is really not bothering anything other than the patrons right now, everything still looks so good! Green and flowery, perfect to wrap up our day!

I really had a blast with you guys and can't wait to shoot you, Mrs for your bridals! I agree with you on the no heat thing! Also, me not being pregnant would be great too! Your gallery will be complete soon!! :)

I had a great time shooting my first big wedding of the year....my last before the baby is here! It was perfect! Candy table, cake, cupcakes, Corona, and karaoke...how much better could it get!?! Dates are booked on a first come first serve basis, so to get the date you need, it is important to get with me asap. Today was by far the best Saturday in a long time with toddlers! I had a morning with a little guy who is always a little leary of me and my big camera stuck in my face, but either he really liked my Mickey I had today, or he felt sorry for Momma about not giving me many smiles in the past and sooo made up for it today!! Here is a sneak peek Momma!! Many more smiles to come!

Then this afternoon, we went a little further east and had fun with a little girl who always keeps me on my toes....except for today, she kept me still in one place and posed like no other!! I think she secretly knew she looked super cute in her outfit and didn't want to get it dirty! Come on, seriously how cute is she!?! More to come of this little sweetie too!

Last but not least, my little munchkin fell asleep on Thursday waiting for my newborn session. She had a fit to sit on 'her' beanbag and was very jealous that I had it set out and covered up for a baby to use. She fell asleep and I took full advantage to get the newborn shots I never had of her....how sweet is she?!? But, I swear, she is not as sweet awake as she appears asleep! The terrible two's have officially arrived at our house!

How cute is this tiny little thing! He is the smallest newborn I have met yet weighing in at a little over 5lbs! I was really nervous about moving him, or anything that would cause him to break, but he slept the entire time we were getting these precious shots! I can't wait until I have my own little newborn around here again....poor thing will be shoved into anything I can get my hands on to take her picture! I tried a few new things with this little one and love everyone of them! Here is a preview for mom!

Spring Fever....

Well we just thought we were getting out spring weather, but today its freezing!! I have some awesome wedding photos to blog, but first I have bunnies and chicks! Here are a few from last weekends mini sessions!

I am so proud of her! She was not so afraid of the bunny after all...chicks...well thats a different story! More pics of that to come mom!! :)

I think this little one enjoyed the bunnies and chicks more than anyone that day!

She "wode" her like a pony while I met with your senior neighbor this morning. I might just steal her too!! :)

Bunnie sessions went awesome yesterday!! I had only planned on doing bunny photos with the kids, but when we went to get more rabbit feed on Friday night, my little monster spotted the chicks...and screamed her head off until we made it to the car with a box of them. Now, it was not like lets get one chick and we will be on our way, the lovely TSC lady informed us that when you buy a chick you must take 6! At that point, I was not wanting any chicks at all! 6 chicks, 3 rabbits, 2 dogs, a toddler, a husband, and a pregnant lady just don't mix! But like I said, a screaming kid got her way, and now we are the proud parents of 6 Straight Run chickens. (I have no idea what that is, chickens are chickens to me.) So needless to say, it was a fun day with the surprise baby chicks!

I had the best session with the most handsome little boy and beautiful little girl today!! I was so excited to get these started tonight, I skipped ER to get mom her preview! Thats ok, I am in love with these pics and can't wait to get the gallery ready for mom!! Thanks for coming to see me today...and putting up with my little monster at the end! Enjoy your preview and have a great weekend...I now have to play barbershop and cut the Mr's hair. If I am lucky, I will get some shots and everyone can see that I should stick to my day job as a photog/mommy/student and never, ever try to cut anyones hair...that wants to keep it! :)

Senior '09...

I had a awesome time with this senior girl on Saturday. She even brought her own prop for a couple of shots...aka Fred. She was a trooper in the cold with all her outfit choices and I had minimal chill bump editing, which is always good! It was nice to shoot a grown up for a change that didn't need a kleenex break and that I didn't have to chase around. Don't get me wrong, I love my little people that I get to see more often than anyone...and the new babies...oh how I love new babies...but I would love to get into working more with some Seniors! Here is a sneak peek for pretty Sr girl and her mom...and I guess Fred. He wasn't into the whole picture thing, but I did what I do best to get him to laugh and caught some REAL smiles...I made fun of him and gave him a hard time like I sometimes have to do with my Mr to get a real smile. Just with Fred, he didn't get all mad at me (at least I hope not!!) and say "if you don't stop making fun of me, I am leaving and you won't get a pic of anything other than my aaaaa"....ummmm, well you get the idea! :)

Wow! 2 posts in 2 days!! I am on a roll! As promised, here is a preview of new baby and his big brother! Big bro wasn't into our session this time around, but I think he did a great job anyway. Being 2 and a big brother is hard work and a sucker was just what he needed to get the job done!

Spring Break!!!!

I have been so busy with school and little cuties that my poor blog is neglected again! Lots of fun things coming up with spring approaching! We have Easter sessions next week that booked up so fast! I am so excited to get our bunnies this weekend for those sessions! I still have our bunny Willy from last year...who needs a home...hint hint...and will hopefully be giving one baby bunny a new home too...hink hint...as long as my hubby will let them go! :) He thinks we should go into the rabbit business and have a bunny farm in the back yard. I am not thinking that is such a great idea since poor Willy lost a couple of toes when our sneaky little weenie dog got a little too friendly last year. He would think he was Elmer Fud and scored a huge dinner every night if we had more than one bunny!! Speaking of ole Elmer...what does this remind you of...

From what I hear, he is wanting to go back and see those cows and hay sometime soon. :)

Then we had tons of fun in the DT area with an adorable little model. Even in the bitter cold of the morning, he was all smiles and so happy to see me! His momma will have her hands full in a few months when he starts running, and flirting with everyone in sight! Seriously, Momma he could be the next Baby Gap face! He loves the camera!

And speaking of a model...and a awesome name!! Here is little K, and maybe I am a bit biased since she has the same awesome name as my little monster and very close to the same age! She came to see me for her 2year old photos and brought her little brother too!

I also got to visit a new baby and his big brother! He also has a cousin just 5 weeks older than him a few posts below! More to come in a bit! The new bunnies are ready for their breakfast!! :)

I have been a bad blogger! I will get better I promise! So many cute photos to blog, but so little time in between school, a busy 2 yr old, tax time, preggo sickness, and my fav...a busy body hubby who is itching for mowing season to start back up! While he waits for that he is playing Mr Home Improvement. We will have new tile floors in the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room, and entryway. And super cool hardwood flooring in the livingroom and maybe the office! When he gets his super huge mess cleaned up, I will have to take some pics to put up of what the new "studio" pics might look like, but for now the pic below is my new flooring set up in a faux way! I begged for 2 boxes of flooring for this session and after my begging, he gave in. Funny thing is, after the pics were done, he loved it so much, the faux flooring stayed in the living room for a few more days so he could dream about what it will look like when he is finished!

I had the pleasure of working with a awesome couple right before Christmas shooting their engagement photos! It was cold and drizzly, but we tuff'd it out and got some great shots! I cannot wait to do her bridals!! For these we went to the always exciting Deep Ellum. (Where I will have you know I ran into a bum with a yellow Pepsi...one can only guess as to what this "Pepsi" was.) Deep Ellum is full of very cool art and awesome store fronts! I absolutely love it there!! Here are a few of my favs from our session!!

I simply cannot believe the year is already over and we are about to start 2009!! But I couldn't be more exicted and ready for what the next year will bring. This has been a great year for my business and I truley appreciate each and everyone of you that trusted me with your precious memories and made my first year a huge success. There is one little F-Town girl that I owe my first born...(well maybe not K, but something really big!!!!) for helping me become a success!! She knows who she is! I cannot believe that my baby is 2! It is so true that time flys by faster than you think! I have wanted her to hurry up and do so much and now I want her to slow down! She was a quick one in the beginning...she rolled over at 4 weeks, but slowed down on the crawling and walking...but the talking not so much! She has not shut up since she was able to babble and now at 2 she can say every word we say...even the ones we shouldn't. (and I no longer tell her she has a "big ol bobo" when we change her diaper. She informed me the other day, that I in fact have a "big ol bobo"!! So much has changed in the past 2 years, I can't imagine where we will be in another one! Here is a look back at my baby!! Ok, so normally I do not work on Sundays...but I have to say I am sooo glad I made an exception this one time. (Sorry to those that have ask before, nothing would make me happier to accomodate your request, but I got special permission from the hubby to work this early morning and had to promise to never do it again. So it is what it is...and he is "the man" so on that one he wins. :) ) Anyway, back to these super kids! First we have big sister who was full of smiles and let me tell ya, when she smiled, it was infectious! And big brother! Oh, how big brother made me laugh! I promise next time I see you, I will definately have hot wheels on hand! (hint hint mom! :) ) Then we have the baby of the family whole absolutely is the cutest thing next to my little one of course! I have to say that I have never had so much fun at 8am on a Sunday moringing in my life!!! So with out further ado....meet my new little friends!

Meet Abby Cadabbi, our new puppy. We went out for a bday celebration today for my Grandmother and ran an errand for Papa at the local TSC. And of course there was a little girl and her dad selling puppies. I did not wanted another dog, but K has a huge love for her dog dog she already has and ever since she literally tried to choke her uncle's new kitten...well should I say her new aunt's new kitten :)...we knew a little pet was in order. But I never thought it would be a dog like this. I said if we HAD to get another dog, I wanted another weener dog and what did we get.....a Blue Heeler. How could I say no to this dog, when the little girl selling them came up to my truck window and ask if I wanted her. They had been selling the dogs, but had just one left and were ready to go home. IF I wanted her, she was mine. So I took her, held her for a second and said "well, I guess..." and POOF they were gone! (if they would have hung out a few nanoseconds longer, I was about to say, "well I guess but I have to ask my husband. So big daddy walks out to a big suprise!) I have never seen someone leave in such a hurry! So like it or not, we are new parents to a blue heeler pup. I grew up with a heeler, so I really like these dogs, but we are so used to having an inside dog, I am not sure how a bigger dog, that will eventually be an outside dog will go over. So in the mean time, we are in puppy love around our house...we will see how long this lasts.

I must say, this session will be a hard one to forget! I love working with the youngest little man of the family and one day he will run from the lady with the camera who makes him smile even when the sun is hurting his poor little eyes! We spent the morning at the Harbor looking for the people who live in the lighthouse, alligators in the lake, and hiding from that darn sun. It was a really nice cool morning and we had tons of fun...right...well I think so. I am dealing with the terrible two's a bit early so a tired tween and a sensitive eyed little man was just the change of pace I needed! Helped me to see that things probably won't change and I will always wanna pull my hair out, so I need to suck it up and hang on for the ride! :) But really, it was fun and I think we got some great shots for the annual holiday photos! Enjoy your sneak peak!

Today is raining and I love it! We are having a family day..go figure, only time we have them is when it rains and here that's rare. So we went with a friend that is home from Italy to Incredible Pizza with K and her little girl Kenzie. You would think my kid had never seen the outside of our house! She was so excited and rode almost every ride they had...except the frog. Frog was a no go unless Kenzie was there to hold her hand. After all the years of me and her momma pulling crazy stunts, now we will be getting payback at least when they are home to visit. So I don't have any awesome shots to post but maybe a video will be up later. Gotta figure out youtube! But here is the boys that go with the 2 hot moms from another post. These cuties gave me a workout...and Miss N...when is our next outing!?! Assistants rock on days like that!! :)

So yes we trespassed to get some awesome shots for Sarah, owner of Sara Bella Photography. How cool is this spot! This weekend was super busy and crazy fun! First I road tripped it to big ole Richardson, well for a RC girl and some Ftown folks, it was a long trip. But after little man got some donuts in his belly, we were ready to go. We shot spiders and even saw a huge rat...a dead one thank god!! So stinky and so wouldn't have made for a great family photo, so big thanks to Cody for spoting him!

Unfortunately I have some bad news for some. I am raising my session fee by 10 bucks. I have been notified of some changes at my printers that I cannot avoid, believe me I have tried. So for those of you that have a session scheduled after 9/16, I regret to tell you that your session will now be subject to the new pricing, UNLESS you dont want your proofbook. I know I personally love that I can give you all your photos from your session, and not charge a arm and a leg to do so. So please don't hate me or kick me when you see me. Just remember that my printer is giving into the big man and being mean to us little people.

Today was super fun with the cutest little boy ever....well until I have my own maybe. But seriously the cutest 4 year old I have ever worked with! We talked trains, Mickey Mouse...and even saw a mouse, not sure it was the mickey variety, but a mouse no less. Then there were ducks, turtles, fish, and even an alligator! Not really but it was fun to pretend anyway. (No worries people, I will not take you to some alligator infested location and put the babies near the water just to get a great pic...I dont think I am that nuts...right??) Wow! Its been super busy around here with sessions and school starting back! I am taking a full load this semester and that's soooo different! I haven't taken this many hours since I graduated high school! And since I am a professional student it seems sometimes, I guess its about time I took enough classes to finish! SOOOO yes people, I will be done with this whole thing hopefully by spring of 2009!!!!!!!!! I will miss dear old college on the hill, and being the oldest one in class sometimes. Um, well not so much miss it. WAAHOOOO, no I will be sooo happy that I never have to set foot in that place again and see the stinky classrooms that probably my dad had classes in way back when! Anyway, other than school, I have had tons of sessions with so many super fun kiddos and a hot momma! Hopefully she still has the bun in the oven, but since I haven't heard from her, I am thinking he has made his debut. I don't think I have photographed to boys back to back yet! Now I gotta have one! Kenleigh, well she doesn't think so, but Momma rules this house so maybe in the future..far far....far! Anyway, first is baby G and he is growing so fast. He is my cover baby on the biz card. I can't believe how big he has gotten just in the past couple of months since I saw him last! He was so happy the first time and just as happy the second time around. I am not so sure what he thought about the crazy lady with the camera this time, but I think he likes me...maybe! Then another itty bitty baby G, but he was way to little to see how crazy I am. Give him time, next time he sees me he will be older and will run I'm sure. Last but not least, Momma A. Her little bundle will probaby be here by the end of the week I hear, and I hope she is ready!! After these past two boys, they look like sooo much fun. And thats even without putting bows in thier hair and cringing with they rip them out! Fun, fun, fun times with those bows, huh.

I have been comtempleing joining this organization since the day I first heard about it, and after what seems like a millions signs I finally applied. This organization has crossed my path at least once a day for the past several months and I just felt like I should be a part of it. I kept telling myself I needed more time to gain experience as a photographer and get more classes knocked out, then I would be ready...skill wise anyway. I still don't know if you can ever be emotionally ready for this, but when the time comes to do a job, you just bite your lip and do it, right. So when you fill out the application, they ask for the level of your skill, a website ( and since I don't technically have one, I put this blog) to showcase your work, and then tell you that your work will be reviewed and you will receive a notification within 6-8 weeks due to the overwhelming amount of applications they have received. Imagine my suprise 2 days later to get a response that not only had I some how submitted 2 applications, but that also I was approved as a affiliated photographer. I guess having 2 apps on file was someones way of making sure that I didn't get lost in the system and putting me where I am supposed to be. I have no idea how I will make it thru my first session, but am in a weird way am looking forward to it. Not that I wish anyone this type of loss, but I think what I am looking forward to is making the memory of their baby last a lifetime. I am so proud to be a part of this organization that helps these parents in their time of need. After many hours of editing until I thought I might go blind, I am finally ready to share! Yay!! First we have my cousins and now that Fathers Day has passed, I can safely not spoil the suprise! I am the worst at keeping secrets and it has been super hard not to post these pics! I love this one of D, her eyes are amazing! And I guess the big girls look pretty too...just playing!! And I have a feeling that Mr D will break some hearts in a few years. :) Then I had a session with the face of Bella Bowz. This little cutie was not so sure about me taking her photo and really was a bit mad when we stripped her down to her converse to shoot her naked butt. I wish I had one like this of K for my living room wall...and to send off to the yearbook staff her senior year. lol And last but not least is Mrs M, this was by far the hardest secret to keep! Daddy to be had no clue about this session and I was so afraid somehow, someway, even though I don't know him and have never met nor talked to him, I would spoil it. I love this type of session now and it might just be my new fav! Have another maternity session tomorrow and can't wait!! Have a Happy Friday!!

Bikes, Beauties, and....Jesus??!!??

Well I have had a busy week between finals and photos! But it was so much fun. First we had the cutest couple at the Arboretum and I had ask if they were riding their bike to the session...and they did!! Mr and Ms Biker were a lot of fun and the daughters came too, and I learned that Mr Biker has a nickname, and if you look at the pics you will see why they call him Jesus! :) I had seen some really cool pics on a blog, shellysmithphotography.blogspot.com..uggghh I hope I remembered that right! Ro, if you are reading correct me if I am wrong...I want to give her credit! :) But anyway, I was inspired to do something cool and out of the box with them. So lets just say that I want to do more with bikes, cars, hell anything shiney with wheels!

Then this weekend we had a couple of tweens in pettis in downtown Rockwall. This was one of my favorite sessions! These chickies were awesome! I hope they had as much fun as her mom and I because if not next time she and I will wear the pettis and have a photoshoot!!! And then there was my baby who once again proved to me that she is not so much a baby anymore. She loved the big girls and smiled for me a little too!! Her daddy made me so mad this week telling me she is almost 2!!! No, my baby is 16.5 months old, and will NOT be 2 until December 15, thank you very much! :)

WHY ARE PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS SO EXPENSIVE!?!?!?!

THIS WAS A BULLETIN POST AND I THOUGHT IT WOULD SERVE A GREAT PURPOSE FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO WONDER WHY "CUSTOM PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS" CHARGE SO MUCH!!!! ITS NOT BECAUSE WE ARE TRYING TO RIP YOU OFF BUT THERE'S A LOT OF SWEAT, BLOOD, AND TEARS THAT GOES INTO CREATING GREAT IMAGES. NEVER THINK ITS ALL ABOUT THE CAMERA, IT ABOUT THE PROFESSIONAL BEHIND THAT NICE EXPENSIVE CAMERA.

A good explanation for all those people who ask and complain about why professionals charge what they do for photos:Why are Professional Photographers so expensive?In this digital age where everyone has digital cameras, scanners and home "photo printers", when people upload their photos to a local drug store website and pick them up a few hours later, we hear this all the time - How in the world do Professional Photographers charge $55 for an 8x10 when they cost just $1.50 at the drug store?

Here's why.

Simply put, you're not just paying for the actual photograph, you're paying for time and expertise. First, let's look at the actual time involved. If you don't read this entire page, at least read this first part.

For a two hour portrait session:- one hour of travel to and from the session- two hours of shooting- 30 minutes of setup, preparation, talking to the client etc.- 30 minutes to load the photos onto a computer (2 - 4 Gb of data)- 30 minutes to back up the files on an external drive- 3 - 4 hours of Photoshop time including cropping, contrast, color, sharpening, saving a copy for print and a copy for the internet and backing up the edited photographs- 2 - 3 hours to talk to the client, answer questions, receive their order and payment, order their prints, receive and verify prints, package prints, schedule shipment and drop package off at Fed Ex.- For local customers, we also print a set of all of their photos, and meet them at our studio to review the photos and place their order. Meeting and travel time averages 2 hours.You can see how one two hour session easily turns into more than ten hours of work from start to finish. So when you see a Photographer charging a $200 session fee for a two hour photo shoot, you are not paying them $100 / hour.

For an eight hour wedding:- I won't bore you with the details, but an eight hour wedding typically amounts to at least two to three full 40 hour work weeks worth of time. Again, if they are charging you $4,000 for an eight hour wedding, you are not paying them $500 / hour.

Now for the expertise.

Shooting professional photography is a skill, acquired through years of experience. Even though a quality camera now costs under $2,000 taking professional portraits involves much more than a nice camera.

Most Professional Photographers take years to go from buying their first decent camera to making money with their photography. In addition to learning how to use the camera itself, there is a mountain of other equipment involved, as well as numerous software programs used to edit and print photographs, run a website etc.

And let's not forget that you actually have to have people skills, be able to communicate, make people comfortable in front of the camera - and posing people to make them look their best in a photograph is a skill all by itself.

Think of it this way - the next time you pay $X to get your hair done, a pair of scissors only costs $1.50. But you gladly pay a lot more to hire a Professional.

What about the cheap studios at the mall?

Please don't compare us to the chain store studios. But if you must, consider all of the time and work that we put into our photographs, compared to what they do. Good luck getting a two hour photo shoot at a chain store. Not to mention they won't come to the beach! And of course, look at our work compared to theirs. You get what you pay for.

The truth is, most of the mall and chain store studios lose money. In fact, in 2007 Wal-Mart closed 500 of their portrait studios because of the financial drain they were putting on the company. What the chain stores bet on is that you'll come in for some quick and cheap photos, and while you're there, you'll also spend $200 on other things. They don't have to make money, they are just there to get you in the door.

Schools out...well almost!

School is almost over and I am soooo glad!! This means more time for sessions and fun places to take K!! I have been wanting a pettiskirt for her for a while now, but come on, who wants to pay 80 bucks for something for a 16 mo old that she will never wear in public...except for pic maybe! :) Well I finally found one super cheap that a photog what selling to start her focus on seniors. When it came in, I got K out of bed to play with it. I am worse than a child with a new toy, she has wore it so many times and she loves it. Here are a couple from our trip to the park on her Daddy's first day off in for-ever!

As many of you know, I am a student and am working on my digital imaging degree. One of our projects to wrap up this semester is a resume and I am in need of a little help. I need some references since I have not had a 9-5 normal job since before Kenleigh was born, and even then it didn't pertain to the field I am in now. Blue Eyed Beauties

This weekend was filled with blue eyed babies! And one little brown eyed girl that was too cute for words! First we spent the afternoon with faries, tutu's, and cheese crackers with two sisters that were so much fun. Then Mommy and Me sessions galore! A morning at the park with a baby boy who lit up at the sight of his Daddy was the best way to start the day. Then a little afternoon stroll thru downtown with the little ladies who were determined to not have thier picture taken with their Mommies. Take a peek...
